Initially Mark was recommended to us as an exceptional roofer when we were having issues with a leaking roof on our house in Pimlico. We had previously used 2 other roofers, with no success. Mark assessed where the problem was, came and did the repairs and gave us a 7 year guarantee for his work - which we did not have to use! He arrived on the day he said he would; his men carried tar and other "nasty substances" up to 5 floors of the house but did not damage or spill anything, they cleaned up after themselves. And all for what we considered a fair and reasonable price.

Subsequently, we have used Mark for areas of refurbishment of our new home. This has included roofing, damp work, re-pointing, electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting and decorating. Our son is having electrical, roofing and guttering, cabinet making, kitchen fitting, painting and decorating done. Mark has a good team of associates he can call on for specialism and has proved himself to be an excellent project coordinator.

As well as having the building refurbishment skills, I think what our family has most appreciated is Mark's ethical approach. He is able to appraise and offer a practical solution to an issue within someone's personal budget. He is all about doing the very best job he can within the client's constraints. He also will say if something is outside his expertise. So, for example, he recommended we use a different firm for some drainage issues we were having.

His team have been with him for years and all speak well of him.

Mark Balban and his BRS Builders carried out an overhaul of our slate roof in November 1999, asphalted a flat roof and provided new lead flashings to the pitched and flat roofs. Their work was accomplished to the highest professional standards and their workmen were notably polite and considerate, always seeking to minimise any necessary disturbance. I can recommend their work without reservation.

I have known Mr. Balban for over 12 years, during which time he has carried out various building works on my house in Highbury on many occasions during the renovation of the property. He has always been reliable, completing work on time and to the highest standard, with awareness of the safety procedures relevant to domestic properties.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mark Balban of BRS. I have known and used Mark and his company for the past 17 years, mainly in my previous house. As well as regular maintenance work, guttering and roofing, they have relaid two driveways, installed custom-made shelving to a study room, insulated basement storage areas, re-plastered and redecorated a garage. Their biggest project for me was installing a new kitchen, interpreting my ideas and helping with the design, then sourcing all the units, marble tops, tiles etc. They also installed a new guest toilet there, and have been very helpful building bookshelves, redecorating and re-roofing my current house.

I find Mark very straightforward to deal with, he keeps to his estimates on both time and price and informs me immediately if there is any kind of problem, usually with a suggested solution. His team is extremely hard working, trustworthy and easy to work with, and all will go the extra mile when I change my mind or ask them for something extra. Snagging is always promptly dealt with, and on occasions when I've needed urgent help - water seeping from a leaking down pipe for example - Mark's been round almost immediately.

Further to our conversation I can confirm that the BRS Builders have carried out numerous contracts over the last two years to a value of £65,000. This work was carried out to our satisfaction. Mark is currently estimating further works and we look forward to an on going relationship over the coming year.

BRS have carried out Roofing and Building works under my control and Supervision. I have found that their pre & post contract work satisfactory. I was satisfied with the quality of work, ability to organize and co-operation during contract.
